The Beginning...

This is where it all begins... A humble GS750 for about as little money as I could get away with paying. I was hooked on the idea to begin with of a CB750. I am not sure why but I have always had a fond spot for Hondas even though they have a tendancy to sound like sewing machines. The place I bought my first road bike, a VF400F, was from Whiting Honda in Christchurch. God were they good to me. They loaned me a used XL200 from the shop floor so that I could sit the final leg of my drivers licence (I had only the VF at that point and I had to sit my license on a 250 or smaller). When they downgraded from a fully blown showroom on Colombo St (I think) to just a parts center in Sydnam they let me use their workshop and tools to recondition my old XR200's engine. Actually I think that was partly where the Honda thing began, my old red XR200. All the brands have their colours and looks and back in the day you just couldn't beat Honda red. But nostalgia aside my loyalty to Honda got it's first coffin nail when I rode my friend Austins VFR750, quiet and sedate as it was, the last one was that I needed (or could only afford) a bike on veteran plates (cheaper insurance) and when you are talking pre '80's then aparently Suzuki's GS was the bike to have. DOHC to Honda's SOHC and the fact that they are commonly considered bulletproof was good enough for me.

The other bonus with owning a GS is www.thegsresources.com Everything you ever needed to know about your bike. I have spend most of my free time following other riders projects in the forum and it is nothing short of inspirational, especially one project by 'beergood' who seems to share my same style of just getting the project underway as soon as possible and figure out later exactly what it will end up looking like. He has also ended up building one of the nicer cafe racers I have seen.
